Weathered Resonances

I recently received the Art + Justice Grant to pursue a project entitled ‘Weathered Resonances’. For this project (which is still in the early stages of development), I intend on creating 4-6 sound-pieces that engage with the issue of climate justice as it relates to my home country of Greece. By using various sonic degradation techniques, such as recording on heat-damaged cassette tapes and playing on guitar strings that have corroded in the rain, I intend on creating pieces of music that more accurately represent the imperfect and injured state that Greece finds itself as a result of climate change, by subjecting the tools I use to create music to the elements. I intend on making music that is delicate and fractured, and write lyrics in Greek that are sad but not hopeless, about the ways in which climate change is harming the environment, and our national sense of belonging. The final product of my endeavors will be a small repertoire of songs, that can be put into CD or vinyl format and sold for the benefit of WWF Greece and other environmental preservation organizations in Greece.
